The Community Church of God
About Us
We are a Community Church residing in the Community of Chico. We have long term affiliation with the Church of God with General Offices in Anderson Indiana. The Church of God fits under the large umbrella of Wesleyan Holiness Churches.
As a congregation we gather in the Church Sanctuary to worship, pray, hear scripture and a message. Service is on Sunday mornings at 11:00 with a "meet and greet" fellowship time immediately following.
Wednesday evenings provide a time of in depth Bible study with our Pastor, and women of the church also gather on Thursday mornings in the Church Fellowship Hall. The bible study with Pastor begins at 7:00pm and the Women's study, led by Gale Lockwood begins at 10:00am.
Misison Activity: Local and Global
We are a dedicated community within the community, focused on outreach and support both locally and globally. Every month, we engage in mission-driven activities to address the needs of those around us. Our efforts have included collecting socks for the Jesus Center, gathering preschool books for the Esplanade House collective childcare, and providing shelf-stable food for the Disability Action Center and our own CCOG pantries.
We have also extended our support internationally by responding to Church of God as well as Global Strategy emergencies in Pakistan and Myanmar.
Looking forward, our September and October 2024 outreach is dedicated to collecting ethnic foods for the InterVarsity International group at CSU.
We believe in building bridges through service and creating a meaningful difference wherever we can. Join us in our mission today!
Our Vision and Values
(1) Bible. The Bible is a book of faith that speaks authoritatively to the Christian
life as it tells the story of God. (II Tim 3:16-17)
(2) Salvation/Membership. The church is made up of all Christians who have
embraced Christ as Savior and Lord. People do not decide who is (or isn’t) part of
the church; it is the Lord who adds persons to the church. (Acts 2:47)
(3) Hospitality and Community. The people of this congregation welcome visitors
from all races/ethnicities, age, social status or religion. (John 3:16)
Our Team
Gale Lockwood
Christian Education Director • Women's Bible Study Teacher • Musician
Gale has been a Christian for over 50 years and came to Chico, CA in 1999 to manage a mobile home park with her husband. They began attending Community Church of God at that time and have been faithfully involved in music and Christian education since then.
MaryAnn Hawkins
Pastor of Visitation • Mission Director
MaryAnn moved to Chico in 2021 as she retired faculty and administration at the Church of God School of Tehology in Anderson, IN. She has served the Church of God in the United States and around the world. She has long term experience in teaching, preaching, and working with individuals and groups across the lines of nationality, ethnicity, gender, socio-economics, and age. MaryAnn has steadily become more involved in Community Church of God, and in the community of Chico.
Judy Cohea
Worship
Judy Cohea was born and raised in Chico, Ca. Though she has seen many changes over the years, she believes that Chico is a great town to raise children. Judy currently serves as the music director at Community Church of God. Judy has attended Community for over 25 years, serving in music and worship for over 10 years. Judy states that she enjoys the community and fellowship of the Church.
